Increased Sponsor Support for the International Whitewater Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony (pdf)

McHenry, MD September 29, 2006.

The International Whitewater Hall of Fame (IWHOF) has obtained increased sponsor support for this year's Induction Dinner and Ceremony which has allowed expanded festivities honoring our newest class of inductees. The Whitewater Hall of Fame Induction and Dinner on October 20 at the Wisp resort in McHenry, Maryland, will be followed by a Whitewater Legends Brunch on October 21. This increased support is provided by event sponsor McLaughlin Whitewater Design Group (Denver, CO); honoree-inductee sponsors Appalachian Wildwaters (Rowlesburg, WV), The Belt Group (Cumberland, MD), Demaree Inflatable Boats (Friendsville, MD), Recreational Engineering and Planning (Boulder, CO), Madawaska Kanu Centre (Barry's Bay, ON, Canada), Maravia Corporation (Boise, ID), and Wilderness Tours (Beachburg, ON, Canada); contributing sponsor, Wisp Resort (McHenry, MD); and Friends of IWHOF sponsors, Bill's Marine Service (McHenry, MD), Design Workshop (Asheville, NC), Garrett County Economic Development (Oakland, MD), Stanton Communications (DC), and Susquehanna Bank (Oakland, MD).

The newest class of inductees include: Martin Litton of Portola Valley, California, noted conservationist and pioneering boatman of the Grand Canyon; Tom Johnson of Kernville, California, kayak and canoe designer, coach, and advocate for whitewater competition; Herbert Rittlinger (deceased), noted early German explorer and writer; Jim Snyder of Albright, West Virginia, pioneering squirtboater and kayak designer; and Olympic athletes Gisela Grothaus-Steigerwald of Berlin, Germany, and Scott Shipley of Boulder, Colorado.

The Whitewater Legends Brunch includes a tour of the newest and most unique artificial whitewater course in the United States, the centerpiece of the Adventure Sports Center International (ASCI) scheduled to open Spring 2007. The course includes river-like features created by the patented McLaughlin Wave Shaper. The natural-looking course will be able to change while the water is flowing to create calm, beginner or training environments as well as a venue for world-class slalom, freestyle or squirtboating.

The history, development and major achievements made in these activities will be depicted through displays of related equipment, art, artifacts, mementos, etc. Interactive and virtual components will further enhance the museum experience.

ASCI is a non-profit organization with a mission to create an International Adventure Sports Center that is recognized as a focal point in the emerging and expanding adventures sports industry. The Center, located in McHenry, Maryland, works to promote, educate, and facilitate participation in a wide range of adventure-based recreational activities and competitions.
