Sponsor Support for the International Whitewater Hall of Fame Induction

The International Whitewater Hall of Fame (IWHOF) has obtained increased
sponsor support for this year's Induction Dinner and Ceremony which has
allowed expanded festivities honoring our newest class of inductees. The
Whitewater Hall of Fame Induction and Dinner on October 20 at the Wisp
resort in McHenry, Maryland, will be followed by a Whitewater Legends
Brunch on October 21. This increased support is provided by event sponsor
McLaughlin Whitewater Design Group (Denver, CO); honoree-inductee sponsors
Appalachian Wildwaters (Rowlesburg, WV), The Belt Group (Cumberland, MD),
Demaree Inflatable Boats (Friendsville, MD), Recreational Engineering
and Planning (Boulder, CO), Madawaska Kanu Centre (Barry's Bay, ON, Canada),
Maravia Corporation (Boise, ID), and Wilderness Tours (Beachburg, ON,
Canada); contributing sponsor, Wisp Resort (McHenry, MD); and Friends
of IWHOF sponsors, Bill's Marine Service (McHenry, MD), Design Workshop
(Asheville, NC), Garrett County Economic Development (Oakland, MD), Stanton
Communications (DC), and Susquehanna Bank (Oakland, MD).
The newest class of inductees include: Martin Litton of Portola Valley,
California, noted conservationist and pioneering boatman of the Grand
Canyon; Tom Johnson of Kernville, California, kayak and canoe designer,
coach, and advocate for whitewater competition; Herbert Rittlinger (deceased),
noted early German explorer and writer; Jim Snyder of Albright, West Virginia,
pioneering squirtboater and kayak designer; and Olympic athletes Gisela
Grothaus-Steigerwald of Berlin, Germany, and Scott Shipley of Boulder,
Colorado.
The Whitewater Legends Brunch includes a tour of the newest and most unique
artificial whitewater course in the United States, the centerpiece of
the Adventure Sports Center International (ASCI) scheduled to open Spring
2007. The course includes river-like features created by the patented
McLaughlin Wave Shaper. The natural-looking course will be able to change
while the water is flowing to create calm, beginner or training environments
as well as a venue for world-class slalom, freestyle or squirtboating.
About IWHOF and ASCI:
The International Whitewater Hall of Fame and Museum, being constructed
as part of ASCI's Adventure Sports Center, recognizes and honors individuals
who have made significant accomplishments in and contributions to whitewater
related activities. The history, development and major achievements made
in these activities will be depicted through displays of related equipment,
art, artifacts, mementos, etc. Interactive and virtual components will
further enhance the museum experience.
ASCI is a non-profit organization with a mission to create an International
Adventure Sports Center that is recognized as a focal point in the emerging
and expanding adventures sports industry. The Center, located in McHenry,
Maryland, works to promote, educate, and facilitate participation in a
wide range of adventure-based recreational activities and competitions.
