Community Programs
ASCI provides various ways that the local community can enjoy adventure sports!
Community Days:
Throughout the season, Garrett County community members are invited to raft (with a guide) or kayak (with their own equipment, or equipment rented from ASCI) at deep discounts on special community days ($25 rafting/ climbing; $10 kayak). Reservations are encouraged: on high demand days, guided rafting sells out quickly. Walk-ins will be taken based on capacity.

Junior Adventure Sports Team:
Back for more in 2010, The Junior Adventure Sports Team, created by local parents, provides opportunities for junior members to be introduced to adventure sports in a fun and safe environment. Members will have the opportunity to train with professional coaches and eventually compete. Starting this summer, in cooperation with ASCI, the team is providing the opportunity for junior members to experience whitewater opportunities (rafting, duckying and kayaking).
Program Starts June 27, 2010. For additional information, please contact Kellyann Green at 301-501-4122.
Yough Paddling Club:
Each 2nd Wednesday of every month during the whitewater season, the course will be reserved from 6-9pm for the exclusive use of the Yough Paddling Club. This support of the local club will allow their members to host events, conduct clinics and in general share in recreation on the course. The YPC is a key partner in developing paddling in Western Maryland, and hosts a series of fun races throughout the summer.
Garrett Schools Adventure Program:
Starting in the 6 th grade, Garrett County students who maintain a positive academic and social standing at school will participate in an innovative adventure sports program provided by ASCI. Starting with a general orientation, the program also includes a tour of the ASCI whitewater course, a winter activity, a visit from world class adventure athletes, and finishes with a class whitewater rafting trip at ASCI. This is the pilot program for a more comprehensive program for school aged kids throughout the region.
Service Learning Projects with ASCI:
Many states now require that students complete a certain number of community service hours as a graduation requirement. Maryland Middle and High School student groups are encouraged to earn their Service Learning hours through participation in projects or events at ASCI. Projects are geared to the time frame and interests of the group and might involve:
- Volunteer support at ASCI events
- Trail maintenance at Fork Run Recreation Area
- Development of boater safety program for younger students
- Grounds projects around the whitewater course
- Other project ideas
