ASCI Rescue School
The ASCI Rescue School offers onsite and off-site instruction for most certifications needed by outdoor, fire, EMS and Search and Rescue professionals.

A.C.A. Swiftwater Rescue (Intro):
A one day clinic that teaches students the following skills:
- Avoidance of Common River hazards
- Execution of self-rescue
- ; & Simple Rescues for Paddlers
- Emphasis is placed on both personal safety and on simple, commonly used skills such as:
- Entrapments
- Pins
- Prevention of Accidents
- Self-Rescue Skills
- Identifying River Hazards
- Hydrology
- River Features & More!
Minimum: 5 Students
Required gear needed for Class: PFD for whitewater use, helmet, protective clothing, closed toe footwear, throw bags. (Gear can be rented if needed.)
**Class is offered based on demand; & is a part of the raft guide training.
A.C.A. Swiftwater Rescue:
A two day clinic that teaches:
- Recognition and Avoidance of Common River Hazards
- Execution of Self-Rescue Techniques
- Rescue techniques for paddlers in distress
- & Techniques for dealing with hazards that carry greater risks for both victim and rescuer such as:
- Entrapments
- Pins
- Rescue Vest aAplications
- & Strainers
Minimum: 5 students
Required gear needed for Class: PFD for whitewater use, helmet, protective clothing, closed toe footwear, throw bags. (Gear can be rented if needed.)
A.C.A. Swiftwater Rescue (Advance):
One or more days of instruction that is aimed at trip leaders, boaters paddling on more challenging whitewater, and anyone desiring opportunities to develop their rescue skills.
This class focuses on:
- Developing Judgment
- Applying skills in Rescue Scenarios
- Critical Judgment and Rescue Awareness
- Impacting both Personal and Group Safety
Minimum: 5 students
Required gear needed for Class: PFD for whitewater use, helmet, protective clothing, closed toe footwear, throw bags. (Gear can be rented if needed.)

S.O.L.O. (Stonehearth Open Learning Opportunities) Wilderness First AID (WFA):
Originally called Backcountry Medicine, this 16 hour (2 day) course was first offered in 1975. Many thousands of outdoor enthusiasts have been certified at the WFA level in the last quarter-century. Solo’s WFA has a two-year certification and is recognized by the American Camping Association, US Coast Guard, and various guide licensing boards as meeting their first aid requirements and is the minimum entry-level requirement for many camps and outdoor organizations.
This class will teach you:
To Minimize Risk
- Handle Simple Medical Problems
- Stay Put
- Send for Help
- Safety
- Preparation
- Crisis Avoidance
- & Treatment of common problems such as:
- Blisters
- Sprains
- Hypothermia
- Heat Disorders
- &Protection from the elements
Minimum: 5 students
Required gear needed for Class: Students should pack as if they were going out for an overnight trip. Detailed gear list will be given prior to class start date.
**CPR is not included with this course.
S.O.L.O. Advanced Wilderness First AID (AWFA):
A four day clinic that can taught over four consecutive days or over two weekends, and was originally designed for whitewater rafting and river guiding communities. This course has become an intermediate level of certification for those not requiring the full WFR or WEMT certification.
This class will teach you:
- Trauma & Medical Emergencies using Hands-On
- & Scenario Based Education
Minimum: 5 students
Required gear needed for Class: Students should pack as if they were going out for an overnight trip. Detailed gear list will be given prior to class start date.
**CPR is not included with this course & Class is offered based on demand.
S.O.L.O. Wilderness First Responder (WFR):
A nine day (80+ hours) clinic that can be taught over a nine day period or can be broken up into five consecutive weekends. It's the most widely accepted standard in wilderness medical care for professional outdoor leaders including mountain and river guides, wilderness trip leaders, camp and outing club leaders, rangers - anyone who is responsible for the safety and care of a group of people in the backcountry.
This class will teach you:
- The Underlying Physiology of Common and Uncommon Emergencies
- A detailed look at the Mechanisms of Injuries and Illnesses
- Trauma
- Environmental Issues Including:
- Hypothermia
- Heat Illnesses
- High-Altitude Disorders
- Head and Chest Trauma
- Acute Abdominal Illnesses
- Iinjuries
- Blood Borne Pathogens
- Infectious Disease
- Long-Term Care
- Decision Making
- Organizing the Rescue Team
- & Improvised Rescue

A.H.A (American Heart Association) CPR:
All levels of CPR can be taught at ASCI. A.H.A offeres a Two Year Certification.
